Community Housing Alternatives Approved for Neighborhood Preservation Program (NSP)

 
Community Housing Alternatives has been approved for Neighborhood Preservation Program (NSP) funds to assist homebuyers in the Washtenaw County area!

  

What is the NSP?

In July, 2008, Congress passed the Housing and Economic Recovery Act of 2008 which allocated $4 billion to stabilize neighborhoods hard hit by mortgage and tax foreclosures. Michigan was allocated $263 million and Washtenaw County was allocated $3,024,719. The funds are a one-time allocation of CDBG funds (Community Development Block Grant) called Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funds. Washtenaw County's Office of Community Development will be administering these funds as a part of their CDBG program and have contract ed Community Housing Alternatives to work with homebuyers that desire to own a home in the area approved buy HUD to receive funding assistance.  

The purpose of the Neighborhood Stabilization Program is to acquire and redevelop foreclosed and abandoned properties that are having a negative impact on the community. NSP provides grants and loans to acquire and rehabilitate owner and rental housing; demolish blighted properties, and acquire properties through a Land Bank for redevelopment.  

How much funding was awarded to Community Housing Alternatives?

$561,124 – County NSP Funding

$245,000 – Ann Arbor NSP Funding

Total NSP Funding $806,124  

Additional HOME funds were awarded that can assist individuals that desire to live in the approved Urban County areas, and need assistance with down payment or repairs to the home.  The approved Urban County areas include:  Ypsilanti Township, City of Ypsilanti, Pittsfield Township, Superior Township, Northfield Township, Scio Township, York Township, Salem Township, Bridgewater Township, and Ann Arbor Township.

$415,537 – County HOME funding
